Big Milestones in Butterfly and Turtle Conservation

The Greater Vancouver Zoo has achieved two prestigious awards from the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA) in recognition of its groundbreaking conservation work: the Peter Karsten Award for the Taylor’s Checkerspot Butterfly Recovery Project and the Colonel G.D. Dailley Award for Western Painted Turtle conservation. These awards celebrate not only GVZoo’s impactful work but also highlight the dedication of Wildlife Preservation Canada’s Lead Biologist, Andrea Gielens, whose efforts are inspiring similar conservation programs worldwide.

Red Panda Cubs 1st Birthday

We are so excited to announce the 1st official birthday of the first two B.C. born Red Panda Cubs Maple and Mei Mei. They were born at the Greater Vancouver Zoo on June 14th, 2022, to mother Sakura and father Arun. The Red Pandas at the Greater Vancouver Zoo are part of a global conservation program called the Species Survival Plan.

Oregon Spotted Frog Spring Release

On Tuesday May 2nd, 2023 The Greater Vancouver Zoo alongside Wildlife Preservation Canada released approx. 5,900 Oregon Spotted Frog tadpoles into a local release site.
