FIND OUT MORE
Why choose Zoo Camp?
The Greater Vancouver Zoo spans 120 acres of beautiful, sprawling land—an ideal setting to step away from screens, get outdoors and build a connection with nature through learning and adventure. At Zoo Camp, campers will also get up close and personal with some of the animals at the Zoo, learn about the Zoo's conservation efforts and develop an appreciation for wildlife, helping to foster the next generation of conservation heroes.
Where will the camp take place?
Camps will have a "Home Base" at the Discovery Center, located near the Zoo's entrance. From there, we will venture to different animal habitats and visit our Outpost.
Our Outpost is a nature space located within the park where campers can pond dip, play in the dirt, and learn about local flora and fauna.
What about intermittent weather?
Our camp has access to both outdoor and indoor sheltered spaces, but as an outdoor-based program we strive to spend as much time as we can in the great outdoors!
Camp leaders are prepared to handle various weather challenges and we encourage campers to dress appropriately for all weather conditions.
What to bring to camp?
Campers should come prepared for all weather conditions, and upon registration, camp parents will receive a recommended packing list. A camper's backpack should always be ready for adventure, including lots of snacks, water bottle, and a healthy lunch.
Additionally, campers will receive a Zoo Camp T-shirt which should be worn each day of camp.
What will my child do at Jr Zoo Camp?
Children will interact with live animals, explore the Zoo’s habitats, and learn from animal experts while fostering a strong connection with the natural world. Activities include behind-the-scenes tours, animal encounters, train rides, crafts, games, face painting, outdoor play, and educational lessons.
What will my child do at Youth Zoo Camp?
Youth Zoo Camp provides hands-on experiences with Zoo staff, including learning about animal husbandry, preparing diets for the animals, creating enrichment items, and exploring our on-site conservation programs. It’s not all work—there will also be plenty of time for fun activities like building friendships, playing, riding the train, and exploring the Zoo.
Who will be responsible for the campers?
Our qualified Education Department staff will lead Zoo Camps, supported by trained volunteers. All staff and volunteers are required to undergo a criminal record check. On-site first aid attendants will be available, and you will have direct access to the Lead Camp staff through a dedicated phone line.
What if my child has health, behaviour or dietary needs?
Please communicate any health, behavioral, or dietary needs on your camp registration form. The Greater Vancouver Zoo will follow up if additional information is needed. Permission forms for food, face painting, and other activities will be sent to parents following registration or will be available on the first day of camp.
Can I sign up for multiple weeks?
We welcome campers to join the Zoo Crew for multiple weeks. However, it is important to note that camp activities may be similar from week to week. But with child-led activities and the Zoo being a living facility, no two days are ever the same!
What age must my child be to attend Zoo Camp?
